Attacks in France – Solidarity by Amazon (and me)

Posted in Did you know, Internet, Website, World with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 14, 2015 by Sirusdark

I was watching the news tonight on the situation in France and nothing less than HOURS later, Amazon.ca had updated their website with these images (did a quick montage):

amazon_montage_solidarity“Solidarity” by Amazon.ca

To my knowledge, this has to be among the fastest corporate social response I’ve ever witnessed. Amazon, I raise you my virtual hat.

To all French citizens and friends, you have my dearest sympathies.

Sincerely,
Sirus

Did you know? Sideshow Collectible runs on WordPress!

Posted in Browser, Did you know, Internet, Website, WordPress with tags , , on July 2, 2014 by Sirusdark

Sideshow LogoHere’s a quick one: Sideshow Collectibles’ website actually runs on WordPress!

Investigation skillz

Here’s a very simple and easy way to find out if a website uses WordPress: using Firefox (or any good web browser) simply right-click any image and choose View Image (if you don’t have that option, your browser sux). Then look at the URL; if you see a sub-folder such as wp-content along with theme… Bingo! It’s running WordPress.

A more complicated way would be to use an online tool (see references) that investigate for you… But where’s the fun in that? :D

Enjoy!

Stay tune for more interesting knowledge!

Did you know? – Optimize EA Games Origin’s cache folder

Posted in Did you know, Games, Tweaking with tags , , , , , on March 28, 2014 by Sirusdark

Origin Logo

Origin is a game application created by Electronic Arts (EA) to manage all your EA games. It allows you to buy, install, update your games and chat with friends. Quite similar to the well known Steam by Valve Software, but with less game titles…

Double it up

Here’s a little tweak for those of you who uses more than one hard drive (you should). To reduce your main data hard drive’s wear and read/write bottleneck, you should (whenever possible) redirect all your program’s cache & temp files to a separate hard drive. Among those programs, Origin, as bad and crappy as people may say, allows you to customize its cache file location.

Origin is cool

So simply go in your Origin’s settings and choose a new location for all your game downloads!

FREE BONUS

Dead SpaceDead Space 1 is currently free on Origin! Grab it while it’s hot!

Enjoy!

Did you know? Windows Experience Index is gone in Windows 8.1

Posted in Did you know, Windows with tags on February 24, 2014 by Sirusdark

Just a quick note for those who may have noticed: Windows Experience Index is gone in Windows 8.1.

The feature was removed in the latest version of Windows 8.1. Though there are some workarounds, it’s now a useless feature, according to Microsoft. And me. I never bothered with it in the first place.

Enjoy!

Did you know? Game score based on time-to-crate

Posted in Did you know, Games on September 20, 2013 by Sirusdark

Here’s a first article for a “Did you know?” series!

Did you know

At one time in the game review world, an online game magazine called “Old Man Murray” (aka OMM) which was usually critical of games that received strong reviews elsewhere, used a very unique way to rate games. They used: time-to-crate.

Depending on how long it took before the first crate or barrel was introduced, points were given. The longer it took, the better was the score and vice versa.

One game made a joke about it: ONI. Its developers inserted in the very first level a crate with a texture on it that said : “TTC 1.1”, meaning “Time-to-Crate 1.1 seconds”.

Enjoy!
