Activating Photoshop CS6

Posted in How to, Software with tags , , , , on October 31, 2016 by Sirusdark

Another very quick tip to start off the week for those, who like me, prefer normal, standalone versions of their software instead of wonderful monthly membership fee like Adobe’s new CC (Creative Cloud)

I was installing Photoshop CS6 last night and I kept entering the darn license key, but it wouldn’t activate… Until I restarted the application. Only then did Photoshop communicate with Adobe’s licensing servers. lol

Enter license > close Photoshop > re-open it again > Joy!

Finally, in case someone has other rleated issues, I’ve added a link to Adobe’s help page on its activation process.

Hello! Quick Photoshop troubleshooting today!

Are you unable to get Adobe Photoshop CS6 to recognize a newly installed font and yet, it’s clearly in your C:\Windows\Fonts folder?

Well here’s two possible solutions!:

a) Install the font in Windows

Once you have your new font, simply right-click it and choose “install“. This will automatically install the font in Windows. Then restart your computer and your new font should be available system wide for every installed applications.

b) Copy new font directly into Photoshop’s fonts folder

1. Close Photoshop, then copy that new font in Photoshop’s Fonts folder located here:

Program Files (x86) > Common Files > Adobe > Fonts

2. Reopen Photoshop and you should be good to go!

Outlook starts downloading a second time all e-mails – Remove duplicates

Posted in Bug, How to, Software, Windows with tags , , , , on September 28, 2015 by Sirusdark

Hello readers! I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday!

When Outlook goes wild and starts downloading twice all your server’s inbox, you end up with a pretty awesome shitload ton of duplicates. This usually happens when there’s a sync hiccup. Anyway, here’s how to easily delete ’em!

It’s a sorta thing

Since the e-mails are all downloaded at once at pretty much the same time, it becomes a breeze to delete these duplicates. No special rules, coding, add-ons or plugins to install/buy required. Simply sort your e-mails by Date Created!

To do this, you’ll want to add a filter (column) since it’s not by default. Simply:

Right-click any columns > View settings > Columns… > Add “Created” to the columns.

Now click the “Created” column to sort your e-mails, select everything that got created within minutes of each other and press DELETE! VoilĂ !

Pro Tip – Make laptop integrated microphone sound great!

Posted in Computer, How to, Skype, Sound with tags , , , , on August 6, 2015 by Sirusdark

I was having a Skype voice chat with a friend not too long ago and my friend’s voice sounded better than usual. I couldn’t resist but ask what brand/model of notebook it was. Then as the conversation went on, I discovered what made it sound so great!

Privacy please!

That paranoid friend had a little piece of paper covering the webcam! Coincidentally, it also covered the microphone (location may varies from model to model). It all then made perfect sense: a piece of paper will indeed block a certain amount of high frequencies, thus making the sound sound “smoother”, “warmer” and even block a certain amount of background “hissing” noise.

Give it a try! Make that cheap mic sound better by covering it with a little piece of paper!

GIMP – Manage your templates

Today’s tip is very simple, but kinda hard to find:

How to find GIMP‘s template editor

It’s easy to save your settings to a template, but editing that template afterward? Not so easy.

GIMP Create Template

The location of GIMP’s template editor isn’t very intuitive; it’s “hidden” in the Dockable Dialogs section:

VoilĂ ! You can now work more efficiently by creating your own GIMP templates and modify them to your heart’s content.
