I was having a Skype voice chat with a friend not too long ago and my friend’s voice sounded better than usual. I couldn’t resist but ask what brand/model of notebook it was. Then as the conversation went on, I discovered what made it sound so great!

That paranoid friend had a little piece of paper covering the webcam! Coincidentally, it also covered the microphone (location may varies from model to model). It all then made perfect sense: a piece of paper will indeed block a certain amount of high frequencies, thus making the sound sound “smoother”, “warmer” and even block a certain amount of background “hissing” noise.
Give it a try! Make that cheap mic sound better by covering it with a little piece of paper!
