How to prevent or Hotmail to redirect to MSN on sign out

Posted in Browser, Internet, Tweaking with tags , , , , , , , on April 3, 2014 by Sirusdark

Hello crazy world!

I finally decided I would share with you a secret tweak of mine. When I sign out of or Hotmail, I don’t get redirected to MSN. Yes, I don’t.

Firefox is your friend

Step 1. Use a real Internet Browser (aka Firefox).

Step 2. Use NoScript or AdBlock Plus. If you have neither of those installed, Ctrl+Shift+A and do so.

Step 3. Simply deny any scripts from the following domains:

Piece of cake. Block these two domains and you shouldn’t get redirected to MSN anymore. - No MSN

Sign in – sign out. Nothing else. You’re welcome.

EDIT – Workaround

For some reason, this method doesn’t work anymore. Being fedup and wanting a simpler solution, I’ve found one:

Log out from a non e-mail related service, like OneDrive, OneNote, Word/Excel Online, etc. Switch service and logout as usual.

-As much as the name implies it, I don’t use AdBlock Plus to block ads. I’ve never used the filter subscriptions either, not even once. I don’t encourage anyone to block ads without a very good reason. If you DO need to block an ad, it means the website you’re on has a problem. Ads are great. Usually.

UnMHT – Generate offline versions of your favorite web pages

Posted in Browser with tags , , , , , , on October 3, 2013 by Sirusdark

I already introduced UnMHT in a previous post about Translated Excel Functions, but I think this Firefox add-on deserves its own post since it’s so useful.

What is UnMHT

UnMHT is a Firefox add-on that generates MHT files from web pages. MHT or MHTML is a file format like many others, except it works like an archive (.7z, .zip, .rar, etc.) and includes WITHIN the file all the necessary files, scripts, pictures and code required to view a web page offline, exactly like its original online version.

This is very useful. Everyone can have a different reasons to view a webpage offline, but they all share a common thing: no need to be connected to the Internet to view the page.

Installing UnMHT

Of course, since you’re already using Firefox, this will be very, very easy. Simply open your extension manager (Ctrl+Shift+A), enter “UnMHT” in the search field, search and install. That’s it! Nothing to download, no link to go to and no restart required!

Creating MHT pages

Once UnMHT is installed, simply go the a page you want to save for future use, then go in File -> Save as MHT and Voil√†! You’re done. You can also simply right-click anywhere on the page and choose “Save as MHT…“. Also note that you can even save multiple opened tabs as MHT.
