Skype – How to prevent sound from being lowered during a call

Posted in Audio, Software, Windows with tags , , , , , on March 17, 2014 by Sirusdark

You may have noticed that when you make a call or answer one in Skype, your global Windows sound may lowered in order let you to hear the call better. Often, this behavior may not be desirable. So here’s how to modify the default settings!

Windows, not Skype

First of all, you must understand that it’s NOT Skype that’s turning down da volume, it’s actually Windows: it detects conferencing/phone call applications (aka Skype) and reduces the overall volume when one is used. This can sometimes messed up online videos volume, live/streaming video feeds volume, etc. which may require a browser restart to get the volume back to normal. That’s just one of the numerous reasons you may not want this behavior.

Windows Sound Settings

Here’s where you can change the settings to fit your specific usage:

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Communications tab

Windows Skype Sound

How to fix any Windows Problems

Posted in Computer, How to, Windows with tags , , on November 10, 2013 by Sirusdark

One word : System Restore

It’s the magic trick that allows you to fix pretty much any Windows problem you may encounter.

How?

Have a problem you didn’t have before? You tried everything possible to solve it and yet,  still have an issue? Just restore your system to a previous date where everything was running fine. That’s it!

Of course, make sure you have automatic restore points being created and/or have created some restore points prior to any system changes, upgrade or software install.

I always recommend though to try to fix and understand the problem before restoring the system. Sometimes you’ll easily solve the issue and if you can’t, at least you’ll learn something.

Windows XP

Where

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Scheduled

See references.

Windows 7/Vista

Where

Start > right-clicking Computer > Properties. Left pane > System protection > click System Protection tab > then click Create.

Schedule

Usually done automatically by Windows whenever an update or a software is install. Usually.

Windows 8

Where

Go on the desktop > right-clicking bottom left > System. Left pane > System protection > click System Protection tab > then click Create.

Schedule

Usually done automatically by Windows whenever an update or a software is install. Usually.

Enjoy!
